Luzzone Dam (6a+)
Multi-pitch | 5 pitches (5c obbl.) | West Face | 165 m | ****
The highest artificial climbing wall in the world! And you feel it ;)
We were really fascinated by the shape of the dam, and the idea of climbing its wall was incredibly exciting. Our inspiration came after watching the Red Bull Dual Ascent competition at the Verzasca Dam (watching the final is really worth it, here the link Red Bull Dual Ascent). We decided we want to try a similar experience. This was also a personal challenge for my climbing partner: he tried this route 4 years ago but didn’t succeed. Now, he was motivated to take his success back!
Here are the details of the route:
Climbing time: 2-4 hours (we did in 2 hours)
Difficulty: from 5b to 6a+ (5c obbl.)
Length: 165 meters
Pitches: 5a, 5b, 6a, 6a+, 6a+
Average length of each pitch: 30 meters
We left by car from Zug, and we arrived at the Luzzone Dam in 2.5 hours of driving. You need to book the climbing. This is very cool because you book the entire day for you and your partner: no waiting line, only you and your partner on the route, and you can enjoy the full day with no stress! The booking cost 20chf per person. For more info and the booking, click here:

To access the climbing spot, you need a ladder, which is kept locked. The keys to unlock it can be picked up at TCS Camping Olivone. From the camping, it's about a 20-minute drive to the Dam.
The climbing in Luzzone Dam is a unique experience! The exposure, the climbing style, the shape of the wall, the landscape around… all these factors make this climbing challenging and very exciting.
